With the lost of a great man Jahns, the mayor, and Marnes, the deputy are left to find a fitting replacement. Devastated with the death of a valued partner and good friend, they still carry out their duties and lead the people of the silo. Candidates for sheriff are chosen by Marnes although he is set on having Juliette Nichols as their next sheriff. Juliette is part of the mechanical which occupies the lowest levels of the silo. Marnes thinks it will be a good idea to give this opportunity to people of different perspectives.
Wool begins to get interesting as the new characters are introduced and developed. Hugh Howey's describes a unique plot with strong and descriptive writing that allows the reader to succumb to it and live in the world he has created. The conversations of Marnes and Jahns make it very easy to connect finding that they are average people too but in different worlds.
